North Georgia Zoo hopes storms will stop coming their way.
NGZ is overwhelmed by the loving concerns from the community. We are happy to say that all the amazing staff members jumped right in, putting in many laborious hours to ensure the safety of the animals.
While the snow is beautiful we do wish it had waited a little while longer to come our way, as we are still cleaning from hurricane Irma. Jokes were made that at least zoo staff got some practice for winter storms, but no one expected them to come so fast and furious. NGZ is once again out of power and dealing with more falling trees and damaged enclosures, but thankfully all our animals are safe. Only this time ice and cold make it even more challenging. The generators are going but due to weather going into the teens, many animals who rely on heat lamps had to be moved inside to avoid getting too cold.
Our staff continues to go above and beyond while taking care of these animals. Moving those animals inside that couldn't handle the cold and continuing to keep them clean and happy while in their temporary enclosures. We also continue to monitor those animals that can remain outside making sure they stay dry and have fresh bedding to cuddle up in on the cold nights.
Rest assure when you are ready to visit, our animals and staff will be here to provide amazing encounters and up-close animal experiences.
