North Georgia Wildlife Park has sustained some storm damages and is now out of power.

We are working diligently to get this cleaned up. Some enclosures and fences were damaged, but all animals are safe. We are in the process of setting the generators up. These will help keep the freezers going so we don’t incur large losses of supplies.   We are also working to get the nursery generator and prep area generator going to help with diet and animal care. If the zoo does not gain power back within 24 hours we will be needing to access more generators, since many animals will need additional heat. With several meters and electrical access points on the park, it is rare to have a total zoo power outage. The last one was during hurricane Irma.
If you know anyone who is willing to donate their time to help today please contact us. Hope@wildlifewonders.org or info@wildlifewonders.org we will also be posting on our social media asking any locals for assistance with getting the trees that have fallen cut up and removed.

9/21/2020

North Georgia Wildlife Park is excited to announce the launch of Kids Animal Academy! This class will meet at the Wildlife Park on Thursdays, beginning October 8th. Kids in 1st-5th grades are invited, although if enough younger or older kids are interested, the park may open other classes. The class will be limited to 10 participants.
Kids will learn about a variety of animals, with a different animal(s) featured each week. This will be very hands-on for the participants and will include a wide assortment of both native and exotic animals. They will also learn valuable lessons about the importance of conservation issues. These classes will be led by professional animal educators from the Wildlife Park.
Kids can sign up for one-hour or two-hour classes. One-hour classes will meet 4:00pm-5:00pm or 5:00pm-6:00pm. Two-hour classes will meet 4:00pm-6:00pm. The topic will be same both hours, but the content will be different each hour. (The 4:00 class will begin the weekly topic/animal, and the 5:00 class will continue with more about that topic/animal.) One-hour classes cost $120/month for four classes/month, and two-hour classes cost $160/month for four classes/month.

A great way to learn more about Kids Animal Academy is to attend our “Animal Academy Open House” on Thursday, October 1, 4:30pm-5:30pm. Academy staff will do a short “demo” of what classes will include, plus answer all of your questions. You can make reservations for the Open House at https://www.northgeorgiazoo.com/kids-animal-academy.html

VIRTUAL LEARNING TOOLS FOR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS

One of the groups most impacted by COVID-19 in recent days has been our students and teachers. Whether attending class in person, or virtually, or homeschooling, everything has become more difficult for our kids, and our educators are having to become more creative and resourceful. North Georgia Wildlife Park would like to help!
The Park offers a variety of virtual experiences which are appropriate for both classroom and at-home learning. These experiences can come to you via Facebook, Zoom, or your existing platform, and are led by trained animal educators.  Here are some examples:
Animals Around the World
This is our standard program highlighting a variety of animals and can be tailored to suit most any topic being studied. It includes 6-8 animals, and generally lasts 45-60 minutes. You will see and learn all about one of our feature animals such as a monkey, kangaroo, lemur, spectacled owl, otter, wolf or sloth, then a variety of other smaller animals, such as a chinchilla, hedgehog, snake, guinea pig, ferret or armadillo.
Zippity Zoo
Zippity Zoo is a shorter version of our standard Animals Around the World and features a fun variety of some of our smaller animal friends. It includes 4-5 animals, lasting up to 30 minutes. This is a good option for younger kids that might not have the attention span for longer screen time. Available animals may include hedgehog, chinchilla, 3 banded armadillo, guinea pig, sugar glider, rabbit, baby goat or lamb, chicks and ducks, snake, lizard, baby alligator, giant pixie frog, and others.
Zookeeper Chat
This experience is designed to be viewed on one screen by one person (or small group) at a time. You will meet and interact with an animal keeper and learn all about a specific animal. Zookeeper Chats last 20-30 minutes.

Design Your Own Virtual Experience
Call the North Georgia Wildlife Park  and tell us what you want to do! We will work with you to design an experience that is both entertaining and educational!

MEET NIGEL THE NYALA

8/28/2020

Picture
Introducing Nigel, the newest resident at the North Georgia Wildlife Park! Nigel is a “nyala”, a type of antelope from southern Africa. When full grown, Nigel may weigh as much as 300 pounds, and have beautiful spiral horns. But right now, he’s just a cute little baby with white stripes on his sides. He is as gentle as he is beautiful and is already used to people. When Nigel was born, he had some difficulties. His mother rejected him, and he was not able to nurse. But Hope Bennett, co-owner of North Georgia Wildlife Park, loves a challenge. She brought Nigel to the Park and began to bottle feed him several times each day. It was not long before he began to perk up, and today is he a healthy young nyala. You can meet Nigel on our Safari Drive Thru, or on our Sunset Safari Tour. Visit https://www.northgeorgiazoo.com/safari-drive-thru.html for more info and to make your reservations. North Georgia Wildlife Park is located at 2912 Paradise Valley Road in Cleveland, GA.

When COVID-19 began to take hold in Georgia, like many businesses, the North Georgia Wildlife Park was forced to become creative. That’s when the Safari Drive Thru was born! This is an experience that allows families to enjoy dozens of animals while practicing social distancing from the safety of their own automobile.

The Drive Thru was an immediate success, and literally thousands of people have experienced it since it began.
Hope Bennett, (co-owner/co-director of the Park), however, is not one to rest on her past success. Hope explains, “It’s time for us to take the Safari Drive Thru to the next level. So, this fall we will be adding new animals, new interactive exhibits, and special drive thru experiences for Halloween and Christmas! Stay tuned because the best is yet to come!”
